Sizing Your Nails

Size matters...

Choosing the correct size for your press on nails is absolutely fundamental if you want to ensure they fit well, last a long time & look great.

The goal is for the press on nail to fit comfortably on your natural nail, fitting side wall to side wall without any excess hanging over onto your skin. Additionally, when putting them on, you shouldn’t have to apply any pressure in order to ‘flatten’ it onto your natural nail.

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how well the nails were made & which products were used, they will be prone to premature lifting, poor adhesion or completely popping off if you’re wearing the wrong size.

And shape does too!

Regardless of all the tips coming from the same retailer, different shapes tend to fit slightly differently. This could be in terms of size, apex height, as well as length. For example, a short coffin might fit perfectly, but a short square might not even be long enough to cover your whole nail bed.

For this reason, it is strongly recommended that you order your sizing kit in the shape & length that you're looking to wear, and then re-ordering a new kit if you want to try a new shape.

Using a sizing kit:

If you’re new to press on nails, I’d always advise you to go ahead and purchase a sizing kit in your desired shape & length before ordering your new set.

This way, we can minimise the human error that could result from using other methods. Also, you can get a feel for how the tip looks on your fingers & check if you’re happy with the length.

You can purchase a kit underneath; they’re very simple to use & the kit will come with instructions on how to use it. This shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes. When you’re ready to go on and order your new nails, leave your sizes in the ‘order special instructions’ box at checkout.

Measuring your nails at home:

Although not as accurate as a sizing kit, it is possible to measure your nails with a piece of clear tape, a ruler and a thin pen.

This ‘tape method’ is done by placing a piece of transparent tape over your nail, making sure it’s stuck flat and there are no air bubbles. Then, you can go ahead and use the pen to draw a little line at either side of your nail, across the widest part. Finally, place the tape on a flat surface and measure the space between the lines with a ruler.

Not too keen on knowing your exact sizes?

There is always on option to choose a pre-set size for your nails: small, medium or large. These are generic sizes that commonly fit a large variety of people - many avid press on wearers use these for their sets without any problems.
It’s always best to know your individual size, but using a pre-set size is a completely viable option.
Small: 2,6,5,6,9 (15mm, 11mm, 12mm, 11mm, 8mm)
Medium: 1, 5, 4, 5, 8 (16mm, 12mm, 13mm, 12mm, 9mm)
Large: 0,4,3,4,7 (18mm, 13mm, 14mm, 13mm, 10mm)
Just be aware that if you’ve ordered pre-set sized nails from other retailers, there isn’t a guarantee that their sizes will be exactly inline with what we offer.

What the sizes & measurements mean:

The width of your natural nail in millimetres corresponds to the size of tip I use. The larger the width of your nail, the lower the size of the tip will be; for example, an 18mm thumb would be a size 0 and vice versa.

I’ve composed a little diagram showing you how the number on the tip corresponds to millimetres.

If you require a tip smaller than 8mm, please don’t hesitate to ask! I can custom file & shape tips to fit you.
